Bauchi, Gulak centres train staff on ICT

The management of Bauchi and Gulak Study Centres, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), have organised a month-long basic computer training for all staff of the two centres.

The trainings, which simultaneously commenced on Monday, February 7 2022, were designed to be hands-on, where all participants would be exposed to the use of Microsoft Office application, mainly Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet as well as email for office work.

The exercises are facilitated by the IT staff of the two centres, led by the senior IT officers,Said Abi Mohammed from Gulak centre and Ahmed Bello for the Bauchi Study Centre.

According to the schedule, the training days of the two centres will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays of every week from 2:00pm to 4:00pm for the next four weeks of the first set.

Acting director of Gulak Study Centre, Mrs. Margaret Yamtu, said the primary purpose of the training was to boost the staff capacity to improve their performance in delivering excellent services to the students and the university being an ITC-based institution.

She advised the participants to ensure that they ask questions and  practice whatever they have learned, saying that regular practice makes one perfect. 

Yamtu urged all the staff to strive and get personal computer system in order to ease their work, adding that due to the economic situation of  the country it may not be possible for the management of the university to provide each staff with Laptop/desktop for now, hoping that in no distance time things will be better.

At the Bauchi Study Centre, the director, Dr. Buba Baba Shani, while declaring open the training, said the exercise was designed to ensure that all the staff are computer literates to enable them perform excellently in their day-to-day administration of the centre.

Shani advised the staff to make use of the training opportunities organised by the centre to develop themselves for optimum performance at their duty posts.

On their part, the staff expressed their excitement and appreciated the centre directors for initiating the training, the first of its kind in the history of the two centres.
