In a bid to ensure corrupt-free academic environment, the National Open University of Nigeria's Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (NOUN-ACTU) on April 17, 2023, held a sensitisation exercise in all study centres across the nation which formed part of its 2023 orientation programme.

The thrust of the sensitisation exercise, which was held simultaneously across the 108 study centres of the university, was to intimate the students and staff about the activities of the unit in ensuring a corrupt-free academic environment conducive both prospective and returning students as well as the staff.

Different committee members and desk officers made various presentations on the necessity of resisting corrupt tendencies and controlling dangers to the university, dangers of corrupt practices as it kills both the persons and institutions image, among others.

Employees, students, and the general public were also urged to always report any suspicious corrupt behaviour to NOUN-ACTU with assurance that such reports could be made anonymous, as they would be processed in confidence.

It was also noted that one of the primary areas of concentration in combating corruption is through training and educational programmes, as well as building successful and efficient monitoring and compliance processes.

Meanwhile, the committee advocated internal and external collaboration to publicise our initiatives, as well as create a reward system to encourage staff and students to speak out against corruption."

The event particularly featured members of ACTU Committee, who visited the study centres within Abuja to make presentations on the operations of the unit.
