The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has approved the appointment of Dr. Ahmad Tanimu Mahmoud as the new director, Dutse Study Centre of Jigawa State.

Mahmoud took over from Dr. Aliyu Musa, who now returns to the Faculty Agricultural Sciences.

In a chat with NOUN News in Dutse, the newly appointed director, said although it came to him as a surprise, yet he summoned the needed mental strengths for his new responsibilities as the leader.

"I quickly put a call to the registrar, Army University, who is an uncle to me, and asked him for his advice; same to the Provost, Nigerian Police Academy, as a father, (and) they gave an idea of what to do.

That served a measure for success and has been helpful since I assumed duty,”he said.

Speaking on his plans for the development of the centre, the director said he would do all he could to ensure that the centre secures a well-structured building.

Furthermore, the director hinted that one of his goals is revirtalizing the advocacy scheme in such a way that the elites, traditional rulers, stakeholders, politicians, amongst others come together so that the university will enhance its enrollment.

Mahmoud said he intends to uplift the Dutse centre’s capacity so as to either compete with other mega study centres like the Model Study Centre in Abuja, Kano or Kaduna.

He, therefore, thanked the university management for finding him worthy of this demanding assignment.

The director, whose appointment letter, signed by Dr. Muyiwa Akintola, said he would also be overseeing the affairs of Hadejia Study Centre, called on the management not to relent on the usual support to the centre.

Dutse Study Centre, according him, has been lacking in certain important items like computers, fans, and ACs for the e-examination hall, ever since the fire incidence that engulfed the centre in the past.
