The management of the Calabar Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has taken its advocacy campaign to the Church of Ascension Parish of the Roman Catholic Church, Nyakasang, in the Calabar Metropolis, Cross River State.
The centre director, Prof. Onyeka Iwuchukwu, who led her advocacy team on Sunday, February 13, 2022,to the church in response to an earlier invitation to attend the Family Day Celebration of the church, seized the opportunity to preach the gospel of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of educational delivery promoted by the premier ODL university in West Africa, the National Open University of Nigeria.
Iwuchukwu, along with her team, were accorded a warm reception by the leadership of the church, and presented the various programmes offered by the university to the congregation.
She also sensitised the congregation on the benefits of enrolling at NOUN, highlighting flexibility and cost effectiveness as some of the many advantages of studying at the university.
The parish priest, Rev. Fr. (Engr) Paul Ekanem, himself an alumnus of NOUN, who just completed his Master of Science programme in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, expressed delight at the visit of the NOUN team and encouraged members of the church to enroll at the university.
Iwuchukwu’s presentation provoked a lot of interests as was evidenced in the multitude of questions asked by the congregants.
Other staff members of Calabar Study Centre, who were in the advocacy team, included Mr. Matthew Akpan, Principal Assistant Registrar, and Mr. Sydney Ibe, the centre accountant.
Some advocacy literature and souvenirs were also distributed at the church.
