As part of his familiarisation visits to some of the critical stakeholders of the university since assumption of duty, the Director, Kaduna Study Centre, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, has paid a visit to the headquarters of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Kaduna Command.

The director said he was at the command, being one of those with an existing partnership with NOUN, to introduce himself as the new helmsman of the Kaduna centre.

Abdullahi explained that the collaboration between the two agencies was capped with an international recognition that saw NOUN and NCS received the UNESCO award in France.

He acknowledged that the National Open University of Nigeria is one of the catalysts through which corrections were impacted, stressing that research, teaching and community services were the substance precipitated the collaboration.

The director appealed for the sustainability of the collaborative efforts that existed between the two agencies and expressed hope for its expansion.

In his response, the Comptroller of the Correctional Service, Kaduna Command, Mr. Audu Umar, expressed his delight for receiving the team, even as he relished the meeting familiar faces.

The comptroller said the existing collaborative project between the university and the NCS has come a long way, which is so beneficial to the inmates and, there, gave the correction department a pass mark.

Umar promised to continue being the ambassador of the university, as he appealed to the management of the university to extend its educational gesture to other correctional centres across the state, especially that of Zaria.

While stating that education is a panacea for the reduction of crimes in the society, he also pledged to pay similar visit to the Kaduna Study Centre in the future.

The team later visited the prison yard and had an interactive discussion with the inmate students.
