The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise has brought together the Dean, Faculty of Arts, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Iyabode Nwabueze and the former NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu at the Bayero University, Kano.

Nwabueze, who was part of the NUC team for the accreditation of programmes of the Department of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, came face-to-face with the former VC when the team arrived at the university in Kano on January 16 January 2022.

Speaking to NOUN News correspondent about the visit, Abdalla explained that since the team was on an official assignment, "I went to her in the office of the Head of Department of Linguistics, Prof. Yusuf Isa Chamo. I was very excited to know of her presence in BUK."

He said ever since leaving NOUN as a Vice-Chancellor on February 11 2021, "I had the privilege of receiving many wonderful former colleagues who had come to Kano for one mission or the other and honored me by calling and actually visiting my office in the Department of Information and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication Bayero University Kano.

"Although I am on sabbatical to Kaduna State University (KASU), my sabbatical, as the case with most of them, is not residential and I was often in Bayero when NOUN visitors come."

He described his latest visitor as "a world-class academic and intellectual. I have met her several times in Germany during conferences. The wonderful thing about her is that she always found her way to these international conferences seeking only permission of the University, not funding.

"I was happy when she took over the leadership of the Faculty of Arts. That was why I was happy to meet her in BUK and I was honored she accepted a gift of a book written as a Festschrift in my honor."

The former VC also commended his successor, saying that "The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, has been a wonderful, wonderful kind man and I will continue praying for his success. But whenever the Vice-Chancellor come (to Kano), I will be the one to go to wherever he is, because he is my boss!"
