The immediate-past Director, Directorate of Examinations and Assessment (DEA) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Godwin Akper has formally handed over the affairs of the directorate to his successor, Prof. Olugbenga Ojo.
Akper, in a brief ceremony held on 16 September, 2021, thanked the university for giving him the opportunity to serve as the DEA director, where he also appreciated the experience gained therefrom.
In his farewell speech, Akper, who is now the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), stated that he would use the experiences not only in his new office, but in every other leadership position he is called upon on to serve.
He also thanked his support staff for being diligent and hands-on in their various delegated duties, charging them to maintain the standard and not relent in their efforts in moving the directorate forward.
While expressing hope that they will cooperate with his successor as they were with him, he said the position was not without its challenges, but with the solid support of NOUN and his ever cooperative staff, the directorate, under his watchful eyes and those of the Vice-Chancellor’s, surmounted the said challenges.
Akper then wished Prof. Ojo well on his appointment as the new director, saying that he was sure his successor would do well in the new role, as he has all the qualities expected of a leader.
With a supportive and well-trained team, he added, it is certain that Prof. Ojo’s tenure will, hopefully, be smooth and successful.
Akper also thanked God for carrying him through his years as the director and stressed that God’s guidance, honesty, humility and a good rapport with staff was the surefire way to success in any given circumstance when one is called upon to serve or be a leader.
On his part, Prof. Ojo appreciated his predecessor for a job well-done and for making his transition to the new position as smooth as possible.
He assured that he will continue to improve on Akper’s good legacy by moving the DEA forward for the good of NOUN, even as he also wished the former DEA director well in his new dispensation as the DAP helsman.
