Discover breakthroughs to commercialise innovation in Nigeria, Minister tasks institutes

The Hon. Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu has challenged institutes of technology, faculties of researches and private organizations to continue to discover breakthroughs in science, technology and innovations that will put the nation on the world map of advanced technology development.

He said this while declaring open the 2022 Science technology and innovation EXPO at Eagle Square, Abuja on Monday 14th March 2022.

According to Dr Onu, One of the major purpose of the Expo is to realise the objectives set as a nation to provide opportunities to bring together indigenous inventors, innovators and investors in one place to showcase all their capabilities to create enough wealth for the people of Nigeria and the nation itself.

He further explained that "there isn't anything we cannot do if we put our minds to it, and we can achieve it without involving strangers."

This year's EXPO  which is being held for five days has various institutions, research organizations, faculties of Science and Innovations from various Universities, Polytechnics and colleges of Education across the Country.

The National Open University of Nigeria is among many other research and Science Oriented Organizations participating at the EXPO.

Some of the innovations being showcased by the University include Montea, Smart Irrigation system, Basmarc Baby Cereal among others.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Technology Innovation and Research, Prof. Monioluwa Olaniyi, said that the essence of Science is to apply it to Development to bring technology and make life easier and the management is happy because some of our students are coming out with solutions to challenges.

"It shows that NOUN is not just producing graduates but graduates that are making contributions to development in our country and the globe."

Three best students that emerged winners of about 774 young Nigerians Science competition from the 36 States of the federation were given award and the ceremony was declared open by the minister.
