On what appeared to be a one-man race, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has re-elected Prof. Nda E. Mundi as its dean.
Mundi, who was the dean of the faculty between 2016 to 2018, relinquished power to his successor, Prof. Grace Jokthan and was later deployed to the Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Air Force, Kaduna, to serve as the director.
He was later relieved at the centre by Dr. Madu Baba Galadima earlier this year where he returned to the faculty until his re-election.
Though Prof. Mundi contested the election unopposed, votes were however cast and counted in which he secured 17 of the total 19 votes.
The election for the office of the dean became necessary following the demise of the former dean of the faculty, Late. Prof. Ahmad Njidda, who died in August, 2024.
According to the election guidelines, one of the laid down criteria for the eligibility of becoming a dean as approved by the management of NOUN was being a professor.
And with other professors in the faculty busy with different responsibilities in the university, being the only available professor in the faculty gave Mundi the advantage of being elected unopposed.
While highlighting some of his top targets, Mundi assured that all hands would be on deck to change the narrative about the faculty.
He added that improvement in the standard of the faculty will form part of his prime targets.
The new dean maintained that crop production and the resurrection of greenhouse farming to serve as avenues for research and source of income would be vigorously pursued.
According to him, that will improve revenue for the faculty and the university in future.
Speaking on the postgraduate programmes and students enrolment, the dean noted that in collaboration with study centres, a strategic advocacy drive geared towards selling agricultural programmes so as to enhance students enrolment would be top of his priorities.
He the commended the management of the university for the intervention, support in improving facilities in the faculty and in its operation.
Mundi further extended his appreciation to the faculty staff for their unwavering cooperation and to his colleagues for voting and bestowing confidence in him to steer the leadership of the faculty once again.
He assured that he will not take the mandate for granted but will reciprocate with total commitment to service.
