The Asaba Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Asaba, Delta State, on Sunday, July 24, 2022, took its advocacy campaign to St. Andrews Anglican Church, Okpanam, Delta State.
The advocacy team, led by the centre director, Prof. Chibuogwu Nnaka, arrived the church as early as the service of the day commenced and was received by the parish vicar, Ven. Dr. Samson Anwasia, who accorded the team a warm reception and introduced them to the congregation.
Nnaka, who is never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, seized the opportunity granted her and her team to mount a vigorous advocacy campaign in the congregation.
The centre director sensitised the congregation on what NOUN is and what it stands for; available programmes and their duration as well as the location of the study centre in Asaba and other centres in Delta State and the country at large.
Nnaka’s emphasis on the flexibility and affordability of NOUN academic programmes elicited much interest especially as she mentioned that applicants to the programmes did not need to attempt the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to gain admission into the university.
The impact of the advocacy programme was particularly underlined by the distribution of advocacy flyers to the congregants by members of the advocacy team while the presentation was going on.
The NOUN delegation, which included Florence Nzekwu, Asst Chief Secretary, Destiny Izu, Administrative Officer, Patrick Ochuba, Administrative Officer, Emeka Iyamah, ICT staff and the centre driver, were literally swarmed by the congregants seeking further information after service.
Nnaka, at the end of her sensitisation campaign, also presented Anwasia with advocacy items including NOUN customised T-shirts.
