The Kaduna Study Centre’s advocacy team has intensified its campaign with visits to Dalet Barracks, Command and Nigeria Defense Academy (NDA) Staff Secondary Schools.

The purposeful campaign visits were aimed at equipping the young and prospective students with the adequate information about the existence and opportunities of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)

The director of the centre, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, said NOUN is a 21st Century university, stressing that the days of face-to-face interaction between the course tutor and students are beginning to fade due to the information and communication technology means of education delivery system.

According to the director, NOUN is specifically designed for all kinds of people, as its academic activity is neither affected by strike nor pandemic.

Moreover, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination does not form part of the entry requirement into NOUN, rather five O-level credits which include mathematics and English Language, he said

Abdullahi outlined the number of faculties and academic programmes of the university which, he said, are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) like any other university in the country.

He, therefore, urged the staff and students of the three schools to use the ample opportunities brought to them by NOUN.

Both teachers and students of the schools raised questions which were duly entertained and treated substantially.

The Commandant of the Command Secondary School, Ribado Cantonment, Major A U. Abubakar, thanked the NOUN centre for giving the school a priority to market the university.

He stated that he had personally passed through the university as a postgraduate student and attested that NOUN is flexible with the use of technology.

Abubakar promised to encourage the staff and students to enroll into NOUN as it is the only alternative and cost effective means of acquiring university education.

Like the Command Secondary School, the principal of its next door neighbour, Nigerian Defese Academy Staff School, Kaduna represented by the Vice Principal, Mrs. H. Bawa appreciated the information and promised to capitalise on the opportunity.

On the other hand, the Principal, Dalet Barrack, Mr. Daniel Martin, who received the team, stated, in his remarks, that many people who are looking for such opportunities lack adequate knowledge of the university.

He promised to encourage students and staff of the school to enroll.

Martin further solicited for frequent sensitization and interaction so as to keep the members of the public about the university abreast.
