A delegation of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has paid a condolence visit to the burial of His Royal Highness, Eze (Amb) A. A. Orlu Oriebe (JP), Nyenwe-Ali Akpor of Akpor Kingdom, the late king of Akpor Kingdom in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, who passed on recently.

It will be recalled that Akpor Kingdom is the direct host community of Port Harcourt Study Centre of NOUN in Ozuoba Town.

The NOUN delegation to the palace of the late king was led by the centre director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, Prof. Eserinune McCarty Mojaye, who represented the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters on the occasion.

Mojaye extolled the virtues of the late Eze who opened the doors of his domain to welcome NOUN into his community.

The late king was also a staunch supporter of the lofty ideals of the university in the institution's bid to take education, through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL), its flagship mode of education delivery, to the doorstep of the people of Akpor Kingdom and indeed the whole of Rivers State.

The director presented to the royal family and the chiefs council a letter of condolence on behalf of the university.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Council of Chiefs, Ambassador of Peace Alekiri Chike Wede, Chairman, His Royal Majesty Burial Planning Committee, thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the university management, the representative of the VC and members of his entourage, for the kind gesture of identifying with the royal household and the entire kingdom in their moment of grief.

Wede also commended the university management for its magnanimity in contributing towards the burial of the late royal father.

Other members of the NOUN delegation at the event were Mr. Kunle Amusan, Principal Counselor, Mr. Abdulazeez Bankole, Principal Confidential Secretary, and Mrs. Grace Obiaju, Assistant Registrar.
