NUC team in Enugu for accreditation of NOUN's academic programmes

The Chairman, accreditation team of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Onuwa Yalakuwa, has said that the was in Enugu in an effort to proffer solutions to any identified gap in the university's programmes.

"We are not here to witch-hunt, rather, we are here to see gaps that needed to be filled as well as the need to bring improvements in the educational system of our nation," he said.

Yalakuwa stated this when he led a high - powered accreditation team of NUC to visit Enugu Study Centre, Enugu State, on Tuesday, 29th November, 2022.

The visit, according to Yalakuwa, was for the purpose of accrediting B.Sc Cooperative & Rural Development and B.Sc Entrepreneurship & Business Management of the Faculty of Management Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

While welcoming the NUC team, the Enugu Study Centre director, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, described their visit as a national assignment for improving academic standards and appealed to them on the need to see reason(s) to rectify the programmes underway for accreditation at the centre.

Yalakuwa, accompanied by Prof. Hasson Zoaka and the NUC representative, Mrs. Mercy Nwoke, were taken round to inspect and assess the facilities on ground at the centre by Prof. Onyia and his senior staff, the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Wilfred Ugwuanyi, the HOD, Entrepreneurship Studies,  Prof. Timothy Ishola, the Coordinator, Cooperative & Rural Development, Dr. Oforbuike Nwachukwu, among others.

The team interacted with the facilitators, NOUN lecturers, students, desk officers, the centre's counsellors and network administrator  in order to ascertain first hand information about their activities and operations at the centre.

At the physical & e - library unit, the team expressed satisfaction about the currencies of journals and books on programmes seeking for accreditation as well as online materials.

Similarly, Prof. Okeyinka Aderemi, accompanied by Prof. Agu Monica and the NUC representative, Mrs Jimoh Aminat, spearheaded the NUC  team for accrediting B.sc Computer Science at the centre. The team  also re - echoed their satisfaction about topical or current books and   journals, even as online subscriptions were impressive.

The Head of Department (HOD), Computer Science, Dr Francis Osang, was physically  available doing the needful as well as providing answers to questions posed to him by the NUC team.

The centre are optimistic that the academic Programmes underway for accreditation would sail through.
