The accreditation team of the National Universities Commission (NUC) has visited the Kaduna Study Centre to carry out the accreditation exercise on certain programmes of the university.
The NUC team was led by Professor Musa Adesina Abdu-Raheem of Ekiti State University, and the team was received by the Director, Kaduna Study Centre, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi.
It could be recalled that NOUN News had reported that the accreditation exercise would come in two phases on 14th and 27th November, 2022 and would affect Islamic Studies and Arabic from Faculty of Arts.
Also, Human Kinetics, Health Education and Agricultural Education from Faculty of Education and the last phase will affect Agricultural Economics and Extension programme from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, respectively.
At a briefing, the centre director extended the felicitation of the National Open University of Nigeria's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters and assured them of his absolute cooperation throughout the period of their stay at the centre for the exercise.
The director who earlier stated that the centre has fully prepared for the accreditation exercise, swung into action by leading the team for facility inspection.
The team was later broken into three groups with a leader in each spearheading their respective the groups, as the pair of Arabic and Islamic Studies from the Faculty of Arts, Human Kenetics and Health Education from Faculty of Education and Agricultural Education from Faculty of Education.
Among the facilities inspected were the Regional Library, e and Pen-on-Paper examination halls, Fire and Safety facilities, Store and Course Materials.
The team led by the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Professor Ahmed NJidda went to NOUN’s sister institute, Ahmadu Bello University, College of Agriculture, Mando for laboratory inspection.
The dean stated that their has been an existing Memorandum of Understanding between NOUN and the ABU College of Agriculture to grant students access to its laboratories for practical purposes.
Among the laboratories inspected were the Anatomy, Nutrition, Pasitology, Chemistry and host of others available.
Others were staff strength record, staff development record, students record, course materials and other academic publications.
In an interview with NOUN News shortly after the facility inspection, one of the group’s team lead, Professor Musa Adesina Abdu - Raheem, explained that the essence of the accreditation exercise was to ensure quality assurance of the university programmes.
“Also to effectively identify the university area of strength to encourage them to maintain and reveal area of weakness so as to address them,” said Abdu - Raheem.
He added that the accreditation exercise help to ensure that the students were in shape hands as there were proliferation of fake universities whose programmes were not accredited, the institution were not been recognize, and their certificates were not acceptable.
Abdu-Raheem upheld that there is no hundred percent perfection but the National Open University of Nigeria was close to the point of perfection.
He described the facilities at the centre as good except that in some few areas which needed to be improved on.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Professor NJidda Ahmad, Head of Departments, lecturers and staff of Kaduna Study Centre actively participated in the exercise.
The team later on Tuesday left for the National Open University of Nigeria's headquarters in Abuja for the rest of the proceedings.
