In an effort to achieve the greater enrolment rate in the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the Director of Abeokuta Study Centre, Dr. Oyekunle Adegboyega and his advocacy team have paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Environment, Ogun State, Engineer. Dr. Ola Oresanya.
Adegboyega said the visit was to familiarise and sensitise the host about the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of education as exemplified in NOUN.
While expressing his appreciation towards the warm reception accorded his team, he disclosed NOUN's flexibility, affordability and the “no age barrier” mode of learning.
The director further sought the commissioner's assistance in discouraging the conversion of the outward part of the centre into a motor park, explaining the reason for erecting a barricade in front of the centre's gate.
Adegboyega also requested the commissioner's assistance on waste management.
In his response, the commissioner appreciated the director and the management of NOUN, describing his visitor as a driver that drives the vision of the university.
Oresanya advised that his staff needed to be well-guided so that they could choose programmes that would improve their careers.
The commissioner expressed no objection to the barricade and suggested that the centre should look into how waste could be recycled for use.
At the end of the visit, a NOUN souvenir was presented to the commissioner on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters.
