Calabar centre nursing students carry out practicum, medical outreach

Students of the Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Calabar Study Centre, have successfully underwent their practicum at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar, Cross River State.

The exercise, which took place on Thursday, January 13 2022, had the centre director, Prof. Onyeka Iwuchukwu, on ground to monitor the programme, with Prof. Funke Lawal from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, as external assessor; while the staff of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital also witnessed the proceedings.

In a related event, the BNSc students and those of Community Health recently carried out a successful outreach programme in the Calabar Metropolis.

 Supervising the outreach event was the centre director, Prof. Onyeka Iwuchukwu, who was assisted by the Desk Officer of the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the study centre.

The medical outreach, which took place at two locations: The Cross River State School of Health Technology and the Special Education Secondary School, Big Qua Town, in the metropolis, was well attended and impactful as participants enjoyed free medical checks carried out to ascertain their blood pressure and blood sugar levels, while free malaria drugs were also distributed to participants.
