The news of the newly established Community Study Centre at Ilaro is reaching the nooks and crannies of Yewa Land on daily basis, as another series of advocacy campaign was carried out from Tuesday, August 23 to Friday, August 26, 2022.
Ag. Director of the centre, Ayokunle M. Ola, led a team consisting of Dr. Hamed Adeyanju, Comrade Abiodun Olumuyiwa Olakanmi, and other chiefs who were the strengths behind the establishment of the centre, to the advocacy visits in the environs.
On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the advocacy team interacted with the Assembly of Yewa Land, Police Officers at the Police Area Command, Ilaro Yewa.
The gathering was told of how learning in NOUN transcends all barriers such as ASUU strikes, which have become a usual occurrence in the Nigerian universities and causing students and parents to have low trust in the education system.
Questions asked by the Police Officers were satisfactorily answered.
Also the campaign team went to neighbouring towns, most importantly Igbogila where it had a discourse with the king and groups of the inhabitants about what the National Open University of Nigeria stands for.
On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the same advocacy campaign was taken to the Divisional Office of both the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and also to Ilaro Recreation Club.
On Thursday, August 25, 2022, the team visited the Nigeria-Republic of Benin border where it interacted with the Custom, Immigration, and Public Health Officers.
On the final day of the advocacy visits, both existing and prospective students of the university were at the centre, assembled and dialogued with, where the acting director informed them that only administrative activities are ongoing currently as academic activities at the centre are still in the process.
