Ogunleye addressing subject officers in Abuja

The Dean, Faculty of Education, National Open University of Niger, (NOUN), and the coordinator of the ongoing conference marking of 2023_1 for Abuja zone, Prof. Bamikole Ogunleye, has urged Subject Officers and Examiners to undertake their jobs seriously as the scripts represent the lives of students.

Ogunleye said this during the interactive session with the examiners before the commencement of the exercise in Abuja zone, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

The subject officers, he said, have the task of ensuring that the scripts are allocated to markers, while the markers are to also ensure that the scripts handed over to them are returned and they are accountable for every scripts given to them.

He particularly admonished them to take the exercise very serious as it deserves because the university takes the protection and safe-keeping of everything that has to do with its students seriously.

In a chat with NOUN News, the dean stated that the exercise was an important aspect of the students life. Therefore, the university do not want students to be penalized when they are not due to be penalized, likewise who should not pass to pass nor who should not fail to fail.

Additionally, Ogunleye pointed out that all these borders on the objectivity in which the people involved in the assignment will carry out their task. Instead of markers we call them examiners, because they are experts in their various chosen fields of studies, which qualified them to examine the NOUN students.

He, however, pleaded with the markers not to take away the scripts neither travel during the marking period until they submit all the scripts in their possession.

On his part, the host centre director, Prof. Sami M. Ayodele, advised them to be committed to their job rather than focusing on the monetary aspect, be diligent and never be in a hurry as that can cause a student to commit suicide in some cases due to negligence on the part of markers.
