The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, has assured the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams that NOUN will make amends, improve on its services and implement their observations in line with global academic standard.
This was sequel to the various teams’ preliminary reports tendered to the university at the end of their assignments.
The VC made the statement while playing host to sets of accreditation team delegation for different programmes at the headquarters in Abuja.
“Whatever your observations, your findings are, we assure you that wherever lapses are, we will beef up so that our students will match up. We are ready to implement it and take it to the next level. This is all about adding value to the entire system,” he said.
The courses examined by the teams are: Faculty of Arts - B.A Christian Theology, B.A English, B.A French and International Relations and B.A Islamic Studies.
Faculty of Education - B.Sc.(Ed) Agricultural Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Biology Education, B.Sc.(Ed) Business Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Computer Science, B.Sc.(Ed) Early Childhood Education, B.Sc. (Ed) English Education, B.Sc.(Ed) French Education, B.Sc.(Ed) Integrated Science, B.Sc.(Ed) Mathematics Education, B.Sc.(Ed) Physics Education and B.Sc.(Ed) Primary Education.
Faculty of Health Sciences - B.Sc. Public Health Science and B.Sc. Environmental Health Science.
Faculty of Management Sciences - Master in Business Administration (MBA).
Faculty of Sciences - B.Sc. Communication Technology, B.Sc. Computer Sciences, B.Sc. Environmental Science and Resource Management, B.Sc. Mathematics/Computer Science and B.Sc. Chemistry.
Faculty of Social Sciences - B.Sc. Political Science.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented in some of the teams’ visits by the Director, Academic Planning (DAP), Prof. Nebath Tanglang, said “We assure you that when you come back you will definitely embrace something new; we are open to corrections. We will make amends as regards to whatever lapses pin-pointed during this exercise.’’
The accreditation team visited some of the study centres in Lagos, Jos and other select centres before proceeding to the headquarters and drew their findings on the following areas as stipulated by NUC: philosophy and objectives of the programme, admission requirements, and curriculum in relation to the programmes, learning objectives, ICT compliance, and relevance of learning resources.
Others include: staffing, evaluation and assessment, external examinations moderation, competence in ODL pedagogy, availability of students, ODL training, BMAS, marking and feedback standard, information and guidelines, among others.
While commending their thoroughness and observations, the VC stated that “we respect your objectivity, and promise that NOUN will make the corrections.”
He said accreditation exercises are no big deal but rather an avenue to point out lapses that help in reviewing university operations, make it better and make the students stand out.
It would be recalled that in 2019, six programmes were given full approval to run for 5 years by the NUC following the accreditation exercise to the university.
