The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has been called upon to designate LAWEH University College, Accra, Ghana, as one of its study centres.

President of the college, Prof. Goski Alabi, made the request at a meeting with the NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, at the university headquarters in Abuja.

Alabi also proposed to NOUN management to consider her university as an affiliate institution, in an instance the initial prayer could not get the nod.

The collaboration, according to her, will mainly be in the disciplines of law, business and communication, international relations and information communication technology.

When considered as a centre, Alabi explained, LAWEH will run NOUN accredited programmes, admit students for the programmes, provide digital content and other learning resources for the students, make available its e-library facility, among others.

NOUN, on its part, is expected to undertake certain responsibilities as setting examination questions to be administered by LAWEH, marking and grading by LAWEH under NOUN supervision or by NOUN itself, among others.

She added that when her university is taken as an affiliate institution, NOUN will have oversight of LAWEH programmes and ensure that quality is maintained at all levels and award the final qualifications.

As such, a longer process of NOUN being accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as LAWEH mentoring institution will be needed, Alabi, who is also the current president of the Africa Council for Distance Education (ACDE0, said.
