A coordinator in the Department of State Services (DSS), Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, Mrs.Victoria Amache and her officers, have engaged the staff of the Jos Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on personal security and examination malpractice, among others.
The training, which took place on April 12 and 13, 2023, had the centre director Dr. Philip Tachin and all staff in attendance.
The coordinator, who cited many lifestyles that expose Nigerians to security threats, urged everyone to be vigilant and observant at all times and to report any suspicious movements within their environment to the relevant security agencies.
She stated that effects of examination malpractice are dangerous and must be discouraged at all cost.
"The major contributing factor for examination malpractice is the high rate of laziness and poor reading culture of students, also greed and complacency of staff," she said.
Amache also gave some tips to discourage examination malpractice which include enforcing strict punishment for offenders and their accomplices, even as she called on government to revamp the educational system by installing CCTV cameras at all examination halls.
She also recommended that the centre should invest in solar lighting system to illuminate the centre and invest in CCTV cameras to help in tracking possible internal and external security breaches.
Responding, the centre director while thanking Mrs. Amache and her officers, said the training was apt as security and examination malpractice were the major issues affecting the educational system in the country.
Tachin, however, promised to ensure that the observations and recommendations are put to use.
