He explained that the centre had tried all humanly possible to have the event earlier "but coincidentally we could not hold it before the matriculation.
Umar further maintained that the centre decided to make the programme a symbolic one for those students that could not make it can virtually grace the event.
He stated categorically that National Open University of Nigeria is a very big university in the sense that it is the special one in the entire African Continent that takes learning to the doorsteps.
The director upheld that the students are joining the university at a time the university is transforming and the world itself has been tested with a pandemic in the name of Covid-19.
"It has really done havoc to learning but only to the residence students across the world but not to the National Open University of Nigeria.
"Even during the mid of Covid-19 Pandemic in Nigeria exams and other critical activities of the university were held," he said.
The director added that "NOUN is the university of the moment no matter the trouble, just as we held this event and people in other parts of the country who just have little data are here with us listening to what is happening and appreciating what we are putting in this way."
He explained that the event was organized for two main reasons which are to interact with the students and to let them understand what the centre have in stock, "this will no doubt pave way for them to see the facilities on ground in order to adequately know what exactly is expected of them
"Also to brief you on the major event or activities of the university and specifically with respect to the office of the Vice-Chancellor or the director of the centre, to tell something strictly about examination."
He tasked the students to shed all forms of misconduct and all manners of irregularities that may mar the pursuance of their career as NOUN students.
He urged them to pay more attention on GST courses as not only their departmental courses formed the basic requirements for their graduation.
