Our experiences with NOUN, graduates from North-east centres speak

Murtala Usman
Lelia

As the 9th and 10th combined convocation ceremony took place virtually due to the enforced Covid-19 restrictions, the success of this trail-blazing experience did not go unnoticed from the students, as some of them from the North-east study centres bared their minds in chats with NOUN News correspondent.

Lelia Duru
                                                                Lelia Duru

My name is Lelia Duru, a student of Education Administration and Planning from Bauchi Study Centre.

The graduation (ceremony) went well, however, we supposed to have been in Abuja for those of us who have finished 2 years ago. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 we couldn't have it last year. But thank God we have finally had it in our Bauchi Study Centre virtually. And I wish henceforth convocations would be decentralized from Abuja and allow students to have their convocation at different study centres.

My experience with National Open University of Nigeria is that they keep students on their toes. They make you to be disciplined in the sense that as a worker you have to find time to read knowing that as a student, you are aiming at something.  I had to work hard towards it. For me, it makes students to be more serious because I am responsible for myself and at the same time I really have to work hard to make sure I got what I want. For the fact that you are on your own in Open University, you have to work at it. If you don't work at it, you can't get it.

My advice for the incoming students is that they have to be disciplined; discipline with their time and discipline with the management of their courses so as to be able to make it.

Francis
Francis Musa Abindiyam with a colleague

My name is Francis Musa Abindiyam, a student of Criminology and Security Studies, from Yola Study Cente.

The convocation ceremony was nice and excellent. I never thought it would be held so nice. it's better than going to Abuja. Everybody, our families and friends were all in attendance.

My experience with National Open University of Nigeria is that you must read.  No matter where you are because this open University has taken education to our doorsteps and this is another golden opportunity for me. I never thought I will be able to read again but Open University has made it possible for me and I am a graduate today.

The university is very good, very nice and excellent. Anywhere you can go you can study.

I refused to be promoted because I don't have this certificate but now the sky is my limit. I was told if I don't bring further qualification, I will not be promoted and now the sky is my limit and I am very happy and I wish to come back for my M.Sc programme.

Yahaya
                                                          Yahaya Ahmaed Twam

My name is Yahaya Ahmed Twam, I studied Guidance and Counseling from Gombe Study Centre.

The convocation ceremony was successful. Honestly, we really appreciate the efforts of the management of the university in making it a reality. My experience with the National Open University of Nigeria is that being an online learning institution, their mode of operation is easy for me.

I want to advise those who want to apply for National Open University of Nigeria to be disciplined and read hard. Even when there is Covid-19 lockdown or strikes, academic programmes don’t stop, it continues and there are a lot of advantages in the university than going to conventional ones.

The convocation ceremony was really a success. We thank Almighty Allah for the wonderful ceremony and we also thank Almighty Allah that everything has come to an end. We wish other students behind us all the best.

My experience with National Open University of Nigeria is not too bad. Everything went successfully as the environment is so nice. The director and staff of the centre are so nice for their advice on how to come out with flying colors.

After this convocation, I pray to Almighty Allah to witness another convocation more than this when I come for my M.Sc.

My advice for the incoming students is that they should know that in NOUN, they don't bribe.  We read very hard to come out with flying colors.
