A team of the Faculty of Education, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has conducted a 2-day mock accreditation exercise at the Jos Study Centre, with a view to test-running the preparedness of the centre to host the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise scheduled between October- November, this year.
The mock accreditation exercise centred on 12 programmes of the faculty alongside students’ records for the year 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Apart from the programmes, numbers of both teaching and non-teaching staff members, students’ fills and other facilities were assessed and the report is to be submitted to the university management.
Led by Dr. Marcillinus, the team was received by the centre director, Dr. Philip S. Tachin, who took them round the centre to assess the facilities.
After a thorough assessment, resolutions were made in the areas of organising training for facilitators, consistency in records of students’ attendance, a group is to be created for counselling, e-library should also be made available, among others.
In another development, the team was later led to an inspection tour by Tachin to the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) Vom, where NOUN science students conduct their practicals.
The NOUN team was welcomed by the Deputy Provost of the institution, Dr. Jamil Yerima, who took them round the Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratories to assess the state of the facilities.
At each of the laboratories visited, the equipment were assessed for the purpose of knowing their challenges and how they can be resolved before the actual accreditation and students were likewise seen conducting their practicals.
Members of the team comprised of: Prof. Abubakar Garba Suleiman, H.O.D Human Kinetics, Dr. Osikomaiya Olufunke, H.O.D ASSE, Dr. Anaekwe Marcillinus, H.O.D Science Education and Mr. Lawal Kamaludeen, an administrative staff.
